Car jerking, sputtering, losing power when accelerating or going uphill might be a sign of fuel pump failure. ie the car would change down gears as it started going up the hill, the revs would go up, however even with more foot on the pedal it was only achieving about 40km/hr. Subaru is a Japanese car brand that makes coupes, sedans and SUVs. As long as the Prius is on the left side of the ECO bar the ICE will not go on (you'll hear the ICE go on if the accelerator is pushed too far). Loss of power on acceleration can be a symtom of retarded ignition timing. We’re not talking a little gravel work just off the beaten track, here. Re: Subaru Loses Power on Long Hills 12/11/2017 2:27 PM I am experiencing the same problem,it looses power up the hill,I have replaced almost everything but mechanic suggest we remove the catalytic converter but am reluctant. On the first hill I noticed a drop and almost complete lack of power. I am a service manager of a small copier company in Chatsworth, CA. Going uphill puts extra strain on the engine anyway, and having the AC on drains power to my car, too, even just driving on a level surface. it also seems to have no power going up hill unless i give it a lil more gas. Then I backed up towards more level surface and started again. This is my first Subaru and I couldn't be happier with its reliability. Until all that has been done, it is hard to say what is happening.
